| WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko showed just how fast his hands are when he knocked out rising heavyweight star Brett Rogers at Strikeforce last month. Now almost ten years into his ten years career age is having an effect, but Fedor’s coach claims that he is still the fastest heavyweight.
In an article on the M-1 Global website and translated by MMAFanhouse, Fedor’s striking coach Alexander Michkov speaks about Fedor’s skill as he gets older.
“With regard to age, it certainly has an effect. To some extent, a decrease in high speed performance, but this is offset by experience.”
“Now the speed, of course, is a little slower, but -- knock on wood -- this is enough so far for victory. There's a reduction in speed, but his combination of attacks have grown. And, in my opinion, to date, he remains the fastest heavyweight.”
It is not yet known what Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight will be in the Strikeforce heavyweight division, but with Werdum recently successful, Overeem returning and reports of Arlovski and Barnett signing for Strikeforce, Fedor won’t be short of world class competition.
