Brazilian ground wizard, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza put in perhaps the most impressive performance of his career tonight in his Strikeforce debut, submitting veteran wrestler, Matt “The Law” Lindland in the very first round with a arm triangle.

“Jacare” came out looking to strike and landed a few heavy jabs in the opening exchange. The Brazilian’s stand-up is noticeably better and goes close with a wild head kick. Lindland attempts a takedown but “Jacare” rolls to his back before slapping on first a triangle choke and then an armbar. Lindland escapes when it appears he must tap only to be caught in an omoplata. “Jacare” improves his position using strikes and passes to half guard. “Jacare” then moves to secure an arm triangle with a minute remaining, forcing Lindland to give it up and tap.

The middleweight division was certainly served notice by “Jacare” tonight in California after he put in an excellent performance. With the likes of the Brazilian and recently signed former UFC star, Dan Henderson gunning for the title, champion Jake Shields looks to have his hands full.
