QUOTE Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem ensured his new year would be a happy one as he finished his fight with Kazuyuki Fujita in spectacular fashion with a first round knockout win at Dynamite!! 2009.
He may have been a heavy favourite to win, but few could have expected Overeem to pull off such an emphatic KO against Japanese superstar Kazuyuki Fujita, a man famed for his Titanium skull. It appeared that Fujita’s ability to withstand punishment would save him early on, as the Dutchman landed a few knees from the clinch with little effect.
Unfortunately for Fujita, his luck would not last. ‘The Demolition Man’ lived up to his nickname, catching his opponent with a gargantuan left knee as he ducked in that put Fujita’s lights out. The Japanese fighter was badly hurt and needed to be taken out of the ring on a stretcher due to his inability to move or see out of his right eye. Everyone at MMABay wishes Fujita a speedy recovery.
With the win Overeem (32-11) extends his winning streak to eight in a row. The prospect of a mouth-watering clash with Fedor Emelianenko has never been closer. |
