QUOTE

The man from Stockton, Nick Diaz was crowned Strikeforce welterweight champion tonight in Sunrise, Florida following an impressive first round knockout of DREAM 170 pound champ, Marius Zaromskis at Strikeforce: “Miami”.

Zaromskis charges in from the off with a jumping kick but it’s Diaz who lands the telling shot, hurting his opponent. Zaromskis plugs away but is having a hard time against the size of Diaz. Diaz attempts a takedown before delivering knees to the thigh of Zaromskis. Diaz momentarily takes Zaromskis to the ground but the pair soon find their way back to the feet. Diaz looks to have Zaromskis hurt with a series of punches but finds himself in a lot of trouble when Zaromskis fires back, dropping him to the mat. Zaromskis moves in for the finish but Diaz escapes, making his way back to his feet. The pair exchange and Diaz gets the better of it, hurting Zaromskis with a nice uppercut before going to the body. Diaz lands a nice right hook which drops Zaromskis to the floor, ending the fight.

This one was a great back and forth fight between the two men with Diaz eventually picking up the win. It’s going to be interesting to see who Strikeforce match Diaz up against next although a number of interesting possibilities exist. Will they move his old EliteXC rival, K.J. Noons up from lightweight to make a grudge match three years in the making? Stay tuned to MMABay to find out.
